How to Use Drywall!

Standard drywall is use for residential walls and ceilings.  It is available in a variety of sizes such as  ¼ ,3/8,1/2 and 5/8 inch thicknesses and  from 8 to 16  feet long. If wall studs are 16 inches on center they would be covered with a ½ inch drywall. Walls with studs 24 inches on center should be covered with 5/8 inch sheets.

Existing wall surfaces (including plaster) will be covered with a layer of ¼ or 3/8 inch drywall. Normally ceilings are covered with 5/8 inch sheets, but ½ inch sheets may be used if the joists are 16 inches on center.
